Chelsea were punished for their disciplinary issues once more as Burnley snatched an equaliser in the 93rd minute to claim a point at Stamford Bridge. Zian Flemming’s header from a corner secured a point for the beleaguered Clarets following Wesley Fofana’s second-half dismissal for the Blues. Chelsea required less than four minutes to break the deadlock in west London.
Pedro Neto‘s low delivery was converted by the sliding Joao Pedro, whose strike narrowly beat Martin Dubravka. Fofana received his marching orders for a second bookable offence with fewer than 20 minutes of regulation time left after fouling James Ward-Prowse. Burnley subsequently squandered a gilt-edged chance to claim victory in the 96th minute, and Chelsea can consider themselves somewhat fortunate to salvage anything. Chelsea have returned to the top four but the draw is undeniably a bitter pill to swallow for their supporters, some of whom booed at the final whistle. Express Sport rate sand slates the Blues…
Chelsea player ratings vs Burnley
Robert Sanchez – 6
An unusual start. Lewis Smith, the referee, awarded Burnley a corner for Sanchez holding the ball beyond eight seconds. Faced a couple of routine shots in the opening period but nothing to trouble the goalkeeper. Nothing to do in the second half.
Following an eight-day rest period, James was called upon once more. James consistently overlapped down the right flank and continually sought opportunities to deliver crosses towards the far post.
Fofana received a yellow card in the opening period for an avoidable challenge on Hannibal Mejbri. He then collected his second booking on 72 minutes for a needless foul on Ward-Prowse. Foolish.
Thanks to Chelsea’s dominance, Chalobah frequently operated in Burnley’s territory. The centre-back was consistently pressing forward and attempting to intercept as the Burnley players attempted to build from the back. He achieved this successfully on several occasions during the opening half. Defensively, Chalobah was equally impressive.
Tasked with deputising at left-back in Marc Cucurella’s absence. Performed OK without producing anything spectacular. Executed a particularly impressive first touch during the opening period that earned generous applause from the Stamford Bridge faithful. Gusto attempted a peculiar no-look delivery in the second period that failed to find its target. Far too careless in forward areas.
Santos maintained excellent rhythm in Chelsea’s engine room, frequently dropping deeper alongside the backline to initiate attacking moves. A genuinely astute footballer who continues to flourish under the new manager.

Caicedo delivered an excellent through ball to Neto, who subsequently provided the assist for the opening goal. Superb awareness and delivery. Appeared considerably sharper than in recent outings, where his performances had deteriorated. 7.
Palmer was highly active in an offensive role for Chelsea. He should have netted a goal around the 37-minute mark after Kyle Walker presented Chelsea’s No.10 with a golden chance, where he could have performed better. Aside from that, he was notably lively. Starting to resemble a Palmer-level threat once more.
He frequently sought the long ball and nearly delivered the perfect one at 41 minutes, but Gusto just missed connecting with it. Gave away possession too often. Not up to his recent standard this afternoon.
Coming off a hat-trick against Hull last week, Neto started off on a high note. The Portuguese winger started on the left wing and found success immediately. His low cross for Joao Pedro resulted in the first goal of the match at Stamford Bridge. Occasionally tried to overdo things when in possession, which slightly lowered his rating.
The Brazilian continued his excellent scoring streak with a goal just four minutes into the game. Joao Pedro found himself in a threatening position at the far post and was somewhat lucky with how the ball ended up getting past Dubravka. Seven goals in nine matches in all competitions for the in-form Brazil forward.
