Customers urged to spend £1 in Asda from Monday | Personal Finance | Finance

Customers are being urged to spend £1 in Asda from Monday in order to take advantage of a great deal that offers a lifeline to struggling families especially during half term.

Half term week starts on Monday for many school areas and with it comes pressure to find things to do and activities for families on increasingly tight budgets.

On the latest episode of The Martin Lewis Money Show Live on Tuesday, the Money Saving Expert founder highlighted a deal for families with children 16 or under as a good option for half term week from next Monday.

Martin Lewis said: “It’s half term next week and many people are struggling, I just thought this was worth a mention.

“It’s always on but Asda Cafe, kids eat for a quid if they’re aged 16 or under. No minimum spend. It’s one meal per child per day, fishfingers, all day breakfast, jacket potato, macaroni cheese. If you’re struggling a bit it might be an easy way to take them out and feed them at a relatively cheap rate. Also if you’ve got an under 18-month-old if you buy anything in the cafe you get a free Ella’s baby pouch for them which is worthwhile, well done Asda on that by the way.”

For those who don’t have an Asda nearby, Morrisons Cafe also has an offer. In Morrisons, kids eat free with any adult meal of £7 or more. The kids meals are usually £5 each, so it is a good deal.

Over 3 million kids have enjoyed £1 meals to date, peaking at over 40,000 a week during school holidays.

Asda says its ‘hugely popular’ Kids Eat for £1 café meal deals will continue to run in over 205 Asda Café’s all year round and not just during the school holidays.

Asda says that its offer ‘stands apart from the many other retailers who offer similar’, as the meal comes with no hidden extras such as a minimum adult spend.

The kids menu has a variety of options including dishes such as Penne Pasta with Meatballs and a vegan Hidden Veg pasta meal, alongside firm favourites like fish fingers, chicken nuggets and the all day breakfast. There is also the option of swapping out chips for a salad or peas.

Kris Comerford, Asda’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Our kids eat for £1 initiative is designed to help families manage this juggle and since we launched the initiative in June 2022 we’ve been able to serve over 3 million meals. I’m delighted that we’ve been able to extend this offer all year round and hope that it will support many more families in the coming weeks.”
