Darren Fletcher faces very difficult Man Utd decision as Bruno Fernandes returns | Football | Sport

Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes are poised to make their comeback for Manchester United against Burnley, leaving Darren Fletcher with a very difficult decision to make regarding his twin sons, Jack and Tyler. Both Mount and Fernandes have resumed training at Carrington and are expected to feature in the match against the Clarets, although it’s unlikely either will play the full 90 minutes.

The return of these two midfield maestros could potentially be a setback for Fletcher’s 18-year-old sons, who also occupy midfield positions. The youngsters have recently been included in the first-team squad due to an injury crisis. However, with Mount and Fernandes nearing full fitness and having almost made the cut for the Leeds match, they are now primed for a return to action.

“I think Mason and Bruno, I think they were pushing to play against Leeds,” Fletcher revealed. “The decision was that they weren’t quite ready, so they’ve trained, so they should be back in the squad. But they’ll be on restricted minutes because they’ve obviously just returned to training.

“So that’s good news, especially the fact that obviously players who have been in good form, Mason Mount’s form has been fantastic and Bruno Fernandes, you don’t have to speak about Bruno, he’s the captain, he’s the leader of the team, so to have them available for selection is obviously great news for me and for the players and for the club and for the fans.”

Tyler is still awaiting his debut for United, despite being named on the bench for the last three Premier League matches. Meanwhile, Jack has made substitute appearances in three of the past four games.

Both have been training under their father’s guidance this week, but a decision regarding their inclusion in the matchday squad at Turf Moor is yet to be made.

“Well, that would be disclosing team information before the game and I’m not going to do that and give anything away,” Fletcher stated when questioned about the possibility of his sons making their full debut.

“Look, for me, they were in the training group on Monday because that was already arranged before I got there. They’ve been in the squad recently, but we’ve got a couple of players back from injury, so we’ll assess that tomorrow.

“We still have to assess a couple of players tomorrow as well because of the short turnaround from games. So they’re in the peripheral squad, but whether they make the match squad, I don’t know yet. That remains to be seen.”
