As Easter approaches with its two bank holidays, DWP and HMRC payment dates will change slightly. Those who receive benefits or pensions might have to plan their finances accordingly, as payments due on Good Friday or Easter Monday will be impacted. To help you prepare ahead of the long weekend, The Express has compiled a list of the new DWP and HMRC dates.
Universal Credit
If your payment is due on Good Friday or Easter Monday bank holidays (18 April or 21 April), it will be brought forward to Thursday 17 April. Payments on other days will be unaffected, and even though the date may change, the amount will not.
Other benefits
Any payment due on a weekend or bank holiday will defect to the previous working day, so benefits that are due between Friday, 18 April and Monday, 21 April, will now be made on Thursday, 17 April.
It is the same for Northern Ireland, where the Department for Communities makes payments on the last working day before a bank holiday, Thursday 17 April.
Pensions
Pension payment days are dependent on the last two digits of a claimant’s national insurance (NI) number, which are as follows:
- 00 to 19: Monday
- 20 to 39: Tuesday
- 40 to 59: Wednesday
- 60 to 79: Thursday
- 80 to 99: Friday
Those who normally receive their state pension on a Monday or Friday will now receive their pension payments on the first working day before, which is Thursday 17 April.
