Royal fans were delighted after they caught another glimpse of the King and Queen’s “hot” enquiries during day one of the German state visit. The Royal Family rolled out the red carpet and welcomed Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Budenbender with all the pomp and pageantry in Windsor.
The Prince and Princess of Wales greeted the German couple at Heathrow on Wednesday morning, before their official welcome in Windsor by the King and Queen. Charles hosted Mr Steinmeier on the first state visit to the UK by a German leader in 27 years.
But royal fans were ever so jubilant when they spotted the King’s equerry, Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thomspon and the Queen’s equerry, Major Ollie Plunkett, standing side by side during the official welcome ceremony at Windsor Castle.
The two Army officers were seen chatting and sharing a laugh while the proceedings were under way.
Fans took to social media to express their delight, with one writing on Instagram: “Pool on fire.”
Another one said: “Lovely photo – they both epitomise dedication to duty.”
A third one added: “Oh this is just lovely.”
A fourth one commented: “We are privileged to witness this important reunion as ‘close-up’ as possible. Delightful.”
A fifth one chimed: “They do make a lovely sight to see and enjoy.”
Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson is now a member of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Major Oliver “Ollie” Plunkett is an officer in the Rifles, a regiment of which the Queen is Colonel-in-Chief.
He has now stepped down as an equerry to the Queen after three years in the role, since the King’s ascension to the throne.
The Rifleman will soon be succeeded by Major Rob Treasure of the same regiment.
