Fleetwood Mac star Mick Fleetwood has reunited with former bandmate Lindsey Buckingham seven years after the latter left the group acrimoniously. Music producer Carl Falk posted images of the pair working together to Threads. “Slightly unreal moment to sit with Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood to play Lindsey the album we have been working on,” he wrote. “And to see his genuine happiness for Mick to finally do his own album and offering to play guitar and to sing on it. Can’t wait to finish this one.” Lindsey has seemingly offered to play guitar and sing on 77-year-old Mick’s new solo album.
The collaboration would seem to mark a thawing of relations after Lindsey was fired from the iconic group back in 2018. The 75-year-old first joined the band on New Year’s Eve 1974 with then girlfriend Stevie Nicks, before leaving in 1987. However he rejoined in 1996 and was with them until his sacking.
Rolling Stone confirmed at the time he was removed from the band due to a disagreement over the group’s then upcoming tour. There was allegedly an altercation between former couple Lindsey and Stevie, who dated from 1968 to 1976, at the MusicCares benefit in 2018. She later claimed he”wasn’t very nice” to “anybody”, including her pop star friend Harry Styles, and it was actually her parents who persuaded her to send him on his way.
In an interview with Rolling Stone she recalled she had only seen him once since his sacking, at the funeral of bandmate Christine McVie, who died of cancer in November 2022 at the age of 79. “The only time I’ve spoken to Lindsey was there, for about three minutes. I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could. You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances,” she said.
Mick has previously expressed a desire to see the former couple make peace telling Us Weekly: “I always have a fantasy that [Nicks] and Lindsay would pal up a bit more and just say ‘everything’s OK’ for them both. But we’ve had such an incredible career.” They announced his replacements almost immediately in a statement which said Mike Campbell from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House would take his place.
“We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs.” However fans are convinced the remainder of the classic line up are getting set to reunite after a brand new Instagram for the group was set up in October 2024. A TikTok post showcased screenshots of the official Fleetwood Mac profiles on Instagram and TikTok, followed by both Stevie and Lindsey.
