Closures of airspace over large parts of the region mean thousands of flights have been cancelled. As of Wednesday (March 4), the current status for the entire United Arab Emirates is “advise against all but essential travel”. The government agency is advising its citizens in the area to register their presence and to comply with guidance from local authorities, while staying updated through local and international media for the latest developments.
The FCDO is warning Brits to “stay away from areas around security or military facilities” and to “follow the instructions of the local authorities and monitor local and international media for the latest information”.
Brits in the UAE are also being urged to remain indoors in a secure location and monitor their phones for emergency air raid alerts from the UAE Ministry of the Interior. If an alert sounds, move to the lowest possible floor and stay away from glass.
Those who are in the UAE should register their presence with the UK Government. There are a limited number of commercial options available, including by air from UAE and from Oman.
“If your presence in UAE is not essential, you may wish to consider departing – if you judge you can access these options safely”, says the FCDO.

The suspension affects both departures and arrivals — the airline says it will resume services only once authorities deem the airspace safe.
The long-haul carrier added that a further update will be provided on Friday, March 6, at 9am, with passengers being urged to keep an eye on the latest flight information.
In response to regional airspace disruptions, Emirates is operating seven flights from Dubai to the UK today, with Etihad running two departures from Abu Dhabi. Virgin Atlantic will also operate a flight from Dubai to London Heathrow, providing limited options for stranded travellers.
