A 16-year-old boy is in a serious condition after being stabbed in broad daylight, leading to chaos at a hospital that police believe is connected to the incident. The teenager was attacked on Pretoria Road in Bordesley Green around 3.30pm yesterday, according to West Midlands Police.
He was quickly taken to hospital, where he remains stable, while authorities are actively searching for the assailant. The police are also looking into a disturbance that occurred later that night at a Birmingham hospital, thought to be Heartlands Hospital. They stated that the incident involved several individuals and is suspected to be related to the earlier stabbing.
An eyewitness reported that Heartlands Hospital was put on “lockdown” after a group “ambushed” the A&E department. There were also claims of an ambulance being “raided with a patient inside”, but this was later refuted by the police.
In a statement given to BirminghamLive, a police spokesperson confirmed: “We are investigating after a teenager was stabbed in Bordesley Green, Birmingham on Saturday. We were called to reports of a stabbing in Pretoria Road at around 3.30pm”, reports The Mirror.
The spokesperson added: “A 16 year old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition. An investigation is underway to establish the details. We are also investigating reports of disorder involving a number of people at a Birmingham hospital which is believed to be linked to the stabbing incident.”
The police have issued a call for assistance with their ongoing probe, urging the public: “If you can help with our investigation, you can contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101 quoting log 2746 of 15 February.”
Following the incident that occurred yesterday, Pretoria Road was cordoned off, and law enforcement officers have maintained a presence at the site today. To date, no arrests have been made, and police investigations are still in progress.
Heartlands Hospital and West Midlands Ambulance Service have been contacted for statements.
