Helpless child watched monster gouge mum’s eye and bite her nose | UK | News

A vicious thug who gouged a woman’s eye with his thumb and bit her nose in front of her terrified young child during a horrific attack has been jailed for three years. Matt Satchell, 28, carried out the brutal assault at the victim’s home in Dartford on August 9, 2025 after an argument.

He pushed the woman to the floor, pinned her down and covered her mouth and nose to stop her screaming for help. He then bit her nose, forced his thumb into her eye, slapped her repeatedly and hurled obscenities at her – all while her child looked on helplessly. The victim, who feared she was going to be killed, eventually managed to get away from him and leave the room. But when she asked for her phone back, he turned violent again.

Unknown to her, she had accidentally dialled a relative during the struggle. The relative heard the disturbance and immediately called police.

Officers rushed to the address but found Satchell had already fled. He was later traced and arrested at a property in Stone.

Satchell, of Cherry Avenue, Swanley, was charged with intentional suffocation and actual bodily harm. He denied both offences but was convicted after a trial.

On Monday March 9, 2026 he was jailed for three years at Woolwich Crown Court and given a five-year restraining order.

Investigating officer Police Constable Ellie Rose said: “This was a terrifying and sustained attack carried out in front of a young child, and Satchell was completely out of control.

“The victim showed enormous courage in coming forward, despite her understandable fear of reprisals, and I hope this outcome helps her begin to move forward with her life.

“There is never any excuse for domestic abuse.

A wealth of support is available for victims, and we work closely with a range of agencies and charities to help people break free from the cycle of abuse.”
