The tweet generated a response from former Labour MP Jonathan Ashworth who surprisingly lost his Leicester South seat in July to an independent candidate.
Ashworth, who is now the Chief Executive of Labour Together, responded: “I hope while you’re in my old constituency – Leicester a city proud of many faiths & communities where diversity is celebrated – you condemn Musk, you condemn his support for Tommy Robinson and rule out ever taking a dime from him.
“Robinson supporters aren’t welcome in Leicester.”
Ashworth’s comments came following a series of bizarre tweets by X owner Elon Musk in which he alleged that convicted criminal Tommy Robinson was a political prisoner.
Last year, Robinson pleaded guilty to contempt of court after he repeated false claims about a teenage Syrian refugee. Farage and senior members of Reform have moved to distance themselves from the comments, insisting that Robinson and his supporters are not welcome in the party.
Reform MP Anderson hit back at Ashworth on X, writing: “You’re not welcome in Leicester either. That’s why they voted you out.”
Earlier, Anderson had also moved to distance himself from the former member of the English Defence League.
When asked about Robinson, Anderson said: “He pleaded guilty didn’t he? So he has got to take his sentence.
“I wouldn’t welcome him into Reform UK, I think we have made our position quite clear on that.”
