Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo as the January transfer window approaches. The reigning Premier League champions have been linked with the Ghana international for several weeks and speculation is intensifying as we approach the New Year. Liverpool are currently going through a tough period, having suffered six losses in their last seven Premier League games.
This poor run of form has seen the Reds slide to 12th place in the league standings, fuelling rumours that they may be looking to bolster their squad with new signings.Various reports have suggested that Liverpool are keen on bringing Semenyo to Anfield in January. He reportedly has a release clause of around £65million in his contract with Bournemouth, and Manchester United are also believed to be interested.
In the event Liverpool manage to secure Semenyo’s signature, there would be a number of suitable squad numbers available.
He currently wears the No. 24 shirt at Bournemouth, which is up for grabs at Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window.
The Reds also have several other squad numbers free for Semenyo if they decide to bring him to Anfield.
Their No. 19 shirt is currently vacant, having been left by Harvey Elliott in the summer when he moved to Aston Villa on loan with an obligation to buy.
Semenyo previously wore the No 11 and No 18 during his stint at Bristol City, but these are currently occupied by Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo respectively.
The Reds also have No. 21, No. 23, No. 24, No. 27 and No. 29 all available for Semenyo this January, but it remains to be seen whether their interest will result in a transfer in the New Year.
Last week, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola said: “We are in November. Antoine is our player, he will continue to be our player.
“In January, you can ask me about the market. But right now, I am not worried about the next market.
“I am not worried about the situation. In January, we will talk about whatever happened, the players we need.”
