Lloyds Banking Group has issued an update after a “technical glitch” left customers seeing strangers’ transactions on their mobile apps. The group, which consists of Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, responded to concerned X users early on Thursday morning to confirm it was looking into the issue. A spokesperson told customers: “We are currently investigating the issue and it may be the result of a technical glitch.”
In a new update, they added: “We’re sorry that some customers experienced an issue viewing transactions in the app for a short time this morning. The issue was quickly resolved and we’re looking into what happened.” One X user wrote: “Almost had a heart attack. I logged into my Lloyds Bank and had thousands of transactions that were not mine. When I refreshed they disappeared.”
Another said: “You could see names of the incomings/outgoings but I didn’t click on them to see more details.”
Halifax and Bank of Scotland said they were also aware of the issue, with the former acknowledging that customers were “having issues with viewing transactions and balances right now”.
Bank of Scotland said it was investigating the problem, which it attributed to a “technical glitch”.
Personal finance guru Martin Lewis also highlighted the issue on X, asking how many of his followers had been affected.
He said: “Do you use the Lloyds, Bank of Scotland or Halifax apps? People have been messaging me this morning [about] being shown other people’s transactions.
“I want to see how widespread this is. Has it happened to you? If so, what are you seeing? If it is someone else’s transactions, does it give any of their details too?”
Social media users responded that their apps had shown details including account numbers, sender names, transaction locations and the last 4 digits of the cards used.
