Drivers on the M6 have been hit by major traffic chaos following a “serious crash” that has brought cars to a complete standstill. National Highways has said traffic has been stopped in both directions on the major motorway J32 at the M55 Interchange and Lancaster Services due to the incident near Bilsborrow.

Eyewitnesses have reported air ambulances landing close to the scene, along with a large police, ambulance, and fire service presence. National Highways North West wrote on Twitter: “Traffic has been stopped on the M6 in both directions between J32 (M55) and J33 (Hampson) following a serious collision. We’re reporting delays on approach of at least 30 minutes above usual journey times both ways. We’ll keep you updated.”

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended. The southbound lanes are now open, National Highways reported.

Lancashire Police confirmed it was a one-vehicle collision and the driver is  being treated for injuries which are believed to be not life-threatening.

All lanes have now been reopened, but National Highways is warning motorists of residual delays on approach of 65 minutes above usual journey times.
