A high street retailer has gone under – with its initial four branches now closing following administration. The Original Factory Shop, known as TOFS, will shutter its first outlets since collapsing, in what customers have branded a “massive blow.”
The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) shut its Prudhoe, Northumberland premises this week, a development locals described as a “massive blow” to the town centre.
“Unfortunately, due to our contract not being renewed, we will no longer be trading from our store inside the Co-op,” the company said in an official statement. “While this is not the outcome we would have hoped for, we are incredibly grateful for the loyalty, kindness, and support you have shown our team.”
Modella Capital characterised the decision as “very tough.”
Local councillor Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South, said: “This is a massive blow to the high streets, our store in Prudhoe is so popular with many local families and people travel from miles around.”
Three TOFS sites in Northern Ireland have also been earmarked for permanent closure: Ballycastle and Portrush in County Antrim alongside Warrenpoint in County Down.
