A man has died following an alleged poisoning in Leicester, with emergency services swarming a busy high street. Shortly before 1.45pm on Saturday, Leicestershire Police received a report that a man had been taken unwell at an address in the Clarendon Park area.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at Queen’s Road which was subsequently closed off. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service were reported to have attended the scene. According to police, a man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital, but died a short time later. A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of administering poison and has since been released on bail. A police investigation into the circumstances of the incident remains ongoing.
A police statement in full read: “Shortly before 1.45pm on Saturday (11 April), a report was received that a man had been taken unwell at an address in the Clarendon Park area.
“The man was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital, but died a short time later.
” Following initial enquiries by officers, a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of administering poison. He has since been released on bail.
“An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is continuing.”
