A man in his 20s has died after a serious multi-vehicle collision on a busy UK road.
Leicestershire Police are continuing to invesigate the fatal collision that involved multiple vehicles on the A46 in Leicestershire on the evening of Tuesday, February 17.
The incident between a lorry, Land Rover Defender, Kia Ceed, Volkswagen Sharan and a Volkswagen Transporter occurred shortly 6pm on the south-west bound carriageway towards the M1, just before the Beaumont Leys/Anstey junction, police said.
The driver of the Land Rover, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a man in his 30s, who was a passenger in the Sharan, was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment life-threatening injuries.
The lorry driver, a 53-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody, police said.
The north-east bound carriageway has reopened, but the south-west bound carriageway is expected to remain closed for most of Wednesday to allow for repairs.
“Our investigation to establish what happened is continuing and I’d like to speak to anyone who can help,” Detective Sergeant Jack Cornick from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said.
Sergeant Cornick said he is keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on either carriageway at the time. He said he is particulary interested in speaking to anyone with a dashcam.
He asked for anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw any of the vehicles involved beforehand to get in touch.
“Any information or footage you’re able to provide could assist with our ongoing enquiries.”
