Marcus Rashford has been warned by Bryan Robson that there’s ‘something wrong’ if he cannot find enjoyment playing football at Manchester United. The forward has flourished at Barcelona following his loan switch during the summer transfer window. Rashford’s future at Old Trafford looked over when ex-United head coach Ruben Amorim declared he’d prefer to field his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach on the substitutes’ bench due to what he perceived as insufficient commitment.
After displaying glimpses of his capability during the second half of last season whilst on loan at Aston Villa, the England international has shone at the Spanish giants. Rashford has found the net 10 times and registered 13 assists this campaign as his team challenges for both the La Liga title and Champions League glory.
Prior to his Old Trafford exit, Rashford appeared a profoundly disheartened figure, seemingly crushed by the enormous pressure at his boyhood club.
Despite his renaissance in Spain, that hasn’t prevented United legend Robson from criticising the forward, hinting he could have a detrimental effect on his colleagues should he return to Manchester. Speaking to BOYLE Sports, he said: “Marcus Rashford, as a player, I can’t understand it.
“When you’re at Manchester United and everybody’s saying he’s lost confidence and belief in his own form at the club, and he goes and says he’s starting to enjoy his football again at Aston Villa.
“If you can’t enjoy your football at Manchester United, there’s something wrong with you. I’m just not quite sure whether I’d bring Marcus back in just because the lads could go, ‘Well, what about his attitude?’
“At the moment, the club have got Amad, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount, who is a top player when he’s fit. Unfortunately for him, he keeps getting injuries.
“They’ve even got Patrick Dorgu, who has done fantastic and I feel sorry for the lad because he got injured when he was doing great and his confidence was very high. It was unfortunate United lost him.”

Rashford hasn’t featured for United since December 2024 and was stripped of his iconic ’10’ shirt, which was handed to Matheus Cunha over the summer, with Barcelona holding a £26million option to make his loan deal permanent at the season’s conclusion.
Whilst Rashford has expressed his desire to secure a permanent switch to Barca this summer, head coach Hansi Flick admitted last month that the attacker’s long-term prospects at the Catalan club remain up in the air.
“(Sporting director) Deco and I always speak about our team and what we can do,” the German boss said when questioned about Rashford’s situation.
“Marcus’ performances have been really good until now, but we have to manage it. It’s Deco’s job and the club’s job to work on next season, so we have to wait.
“We still have plenty more time, there are many months, many days, many weeks ahead of us, and that’s how it is.”
