Martin Lewis has issued a message to Lloyds and Halifax bank customers after customers reported an issue with their apps. Hundreds of users claimed they were able to view other people’s transactions, balances and personal payment details when logging into their accounts on Thursday morning.
Customers from Lloyds bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland were reporting issues. The Money Saving Expert rought the matter to light after receiving mulitple messages from his X followers. Many on X described the situation as a “huge” data breach, while others told the banks that repeated attempts to log out and back in – advice initially shared- did not resolve the problem. One customer wrote: “Why am I seeing other peoples transactions? Everytime I log in and out 6 times it’s showing lots of other peoples transactions!! Shocking breach of data!” A further user claimed: “you have a major data breach this AM – I was able to view hundreds of other customers’ transactions on the Lloyds app, in error. No answer from customer services.”
Concerns also grew over whether strangers may have been able to access their own banking activity.
One person wrote: “Is it really good to see someone’s transaction details on my Online Banking? I am wondering someone might be going through mine as well.”
One customer also reported seeing other people’s benefit payments. Addressing Lloyds on X, he wrote: “Very concerned at the moment. Bank Account for me and my Partner is showing other people’s transactions.
“We had access to see somebody’s Child Benefit and PIP payments.. are our details also been shared?! WHAT IS HAPPENING?!.”
One man also reported that his 67-year-old mum was “absolutely distraught” after thinking her account had been hacked.
He added: “This is a serious issue and Lloyds need me to address this publicly and answers need to be given!”

Customers using the Halifax and Bank of Scotland apps were also affected. Both banks operate under parent company Lloyds Banking Group.
In an official statement, a Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson: “We’re sorry that some customers experienced an issue viewing transactions in the app for a short time this morning. The issue was quickly resolved and we’re looking into what happened.”
Customers are reporting that the banking apps appear to have been “shut down” however this has not yet been verified by the banks.
An investigation into the cause of the app issue is ongoing. The full scale of how many customers were affected is not yet known.
