Meghan Markle was surprised during her latest TV appearance on a US chat show when she was shown a picture of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. The Duchess of Sussex appeared on the Drew Barrymore show on Thursday to promote her lifestyle series With Love, Meghan and As Ever brand, which launched earlier this week.
Meghan made various comments about her family life, including what her and Prince Harry‘s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s, accents are like and what keeps her relationship with the duke “very alive”. But in one segment, Ms Barrymore could be seen showing the duchess a a photo of herself with Harry’s late mother. The presenter appeared emotional as she clutched a black and white framed photo of herself as a seven-year-old presenting the princess with a cuddly toy version of ET at the premiere of the hit movie in Leicester Square in 1982.
She told Meghan that Diana was “such an incredible human being that transcended everything” and said meeting her was the “honour of my life”.
Meghan replied: “That’s beautiful. Oh my gosh. Look at your little face. Oh, that’s so sweet. That is so special that you had it here…”
The duchess added: “I will tell H that for sure” before appearing a little lost for words and adding “and yeah she…” and laughing with Barrymore.
Elsewhere, Meghan delved into her bedtime routine with her children and said that whenever she cannot read them bedtime stories herself, she records herself so Archie and Lili can always see her being with them.
She said: “I’ll always make it a point when I’m travelling if I can’t do bedtime stories with my kids—because Archie and Lili are just three and five—I’ll pack a really thin book and I’ll videotape myself reading it.
“So whoever’s with them, or papa, can say, ‘Here’s mama reading your bedtime story.'”
