Meghan Markle is a keen reader and the Duchess has even shared which books are some of her favourites. With a wide range of novels on the list, Meghan Markle’s favourite is one you might not expect. It’s less than 100 pages so if you’re hoping to see why it’s her favourite, you can easily give it a read yourself.
One of the Duchess’s favourite books is reportedly Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson. The short book is a self-help style novel which tells a parable that you can directly apply to your own life. In order to stop fearing what lies ahead and instead thrive in an environment of change and uncertainty.
While the title may give off a humorous feel, the book actually offers more serious advice on how to navigate life.
The cheese represents what you want in life and aspire to be, while the maze is where you are and something you need to learn to navigate and manipulate in order to get to the cheese.
In 2016, Meghan listed the book as one of her must-reads on her blog, The Tig.
She wrote: “A professor at Northwestern University had this book on our list of required reading for an Industrial Engineering class I took my junior year of college.
“It was a seemingly odd choice, but at the end of the day, the takeaway was a self-empowerment and motivational bent that I apply to decision making in my life to this very day. It’s an invaluable quick read.”
But this was not the only book she listed as one of her favourites.
Meghan also said Amy Poehler’s Yes Please is another book she enjoyed.
The memoir follows the ups and downs of life while balancing humour with serious topics.
On her blog, Meghan wrote: “When Amy Poehler revealed that she was writing a book, the world’s collective response was, in fact, the title that the comedienne chose for her debut: Yes, Please,”
In the 2014 post, she continues: “And while there are hundreds of celebrity memoirs, Poehler’s is one that […] stands out in the cookie cutter crowd.
“Poehler, herself, explains her writing best: ‘I know what I am doing. I am presenting a series of reasons as to why you should lower your expectations, so that you can be blown away by my sneaky insights about life and work.’ And darling, she really will blow you away.”
