The Met Office has issued weather warnings for 132 areas throughout the UK as the country continues to be battered by snow and ice. The massive yellow weather warning for ice which covers large swathes of England, Wales and Scotland will come into place at midnight, January 7 and will remain until 10am.
The forecaster warns that during the 10 hour weather warning is due to the likelihood of icy patches occuring overnight into Wednesday morning, this could lead to some disruption. Brits are being warned there is likely to be icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Following a band of precipitation which clears southeast overnight, clear skies will develop for many areas on Tuesday night will lead to icy patches on untreated wet surfaces.”
To keep your family and yourself in the icy weather the forecaster advises Brits to plan to “leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls”.
The Met Office advisory reads: “If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
