The Met Office released a new weather warning for rain. The fresh alert will come into force on Sunday, December 7, at 8am and will remain in place until 3pm.
The national weather agency’s warning covers the whole of Northern Ireland, with County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Fermanagh, County Londonderry and County Tyrone named among the local authorities affected. In its alert, the Met Office warned the heavy rain may lead to disruption tomorrow.
It said: “A band of rain will move northeast across Northern Ireland during Sunday daytime. Rainfall amounts will vary from place to place but, while most areas can expect to see 15-20 mm, a few places could see 25-30 mm falling within six hours, this most likely across parts of county Down and higher ground elsewhere. Falling on already very wet ground, this could lead to some disruption to travel and normal activities.”
Moreover, some interruption to power supplies and other services have been described as “likely” during the seven-hour warning period.
Flooding, the alert added, is a possibility, with the Met Office urging Brits to check if their homes and businesses may be at risk of flooding and, if so, consider preparing a flood plan and emergency flood kit.
The forecaster added: “Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.”
This warning was issued just hours after the Met Office announced a separate, 24-hour yellow warning for rain.
This warning covers south West England aswell as south and west Wales.
