M&S £36 adjustable linen skirt is ‘so flattering’

Marks & Spencer has really been hitting it out of the park recently with its fashion and homeware ranges, rivalling high street favourites like Zara and Topshop with more contemporary styles. At the same time, it hasn’t lost what made it so popular in the first place, still offering reliable quality and a broad range of pieces that suit different ages, tastes, and wardrobes. As summer edges closer, it’s quickly become my go-to spot on the high street.

One linen skirt in particular caught my eye recently, and it genuinely feels like a contender for the skirt of the summer. It’s the kind of piece that can carry you through the warmer months with ease. Thanks to its adjustable waist and floaty silhouette, it’s one shoppers say is “very flattering”—and it can be styled in countless ways to suit your personal style.

In a review, one M&S shopper said: “A very versatile, comfortable skirt. True to size. I can’t wait for the warmer weather to wear it. Also bought in black.”

Another added: “Lovely skirt fits perfectly and is very flattering, looking forward to wearing it with a T-shirt once the weather improves.”

The skirt is made from a linen-rich fabric, which makes it breathable and ideal for warmer days – whether that’s an al fresco lunch with friends or a relaxed stroll along the beach on holiday. It features a flattering shirred waistband that extends from the waist to the hip, a detail that’s very much on trend right now. Even better, there’s an adjustable tie at the waist, so you can tweak the fit to suit you.

From there, the skirt falls into a soft A-line shape, creating an easy, elegant silhouette. It’s one of those pieces that works just as well dressed down as it does styled up for a summer evening.

That said, the floatier shape won’t be for everyone. As one shopper noted: “Lovely bright white. Material wasn’t light enough for me however.”

Colour-wise, there’s plenty to choose from—and honestly, picking a favourite isn’t easy. A vibrant orange shade really stands out, perfect for holidays or when you want to fully embrace the season. If you’re after something more versatile, there are classic black and white options that will go with just about anything. There are also patterned versions in brown and white, and brown and blue, which add a bit more interest while still feeling wearable.

Styling-wise, it’s incredibly flexible. You could easily throw it on over a bikini with sandals during the day, or pair it with a boxy cropped T-shirt and pretty pumps for a casual city look. For evenings, it would work beautifully with a halter top, strappy sandals, a basket bag, and gold jewellery—ideal for sipping a cocktail at a seaside bar on holiday.

The skirt is currently available in sizes 6 to 24, as well as three lengths—petite, regular, and tall—which is a detail I really appreciate as someone who is 5’2.

In a comment, a petite shopper said: “I love this skirt. I got it in the blue stripe. I have the short length and it is perfect for me at 5Ft 2in tall.”
