The family of a mother and daughter killed in a horrific crash has paid tribute to the pair, whom they described as “the most beautiful two souls you could ever meet”. Mary Michelle Devine, 43, and her seven-year-old daughter Theia were travelling in a red Ford Fiesta last Thursday at 10am.
Reports were made to the emergency services of a single vehicle collision on the A3 near the Hindhead Tunnel on the Surrey-Hampshire border. Despite rushing to the scene, the mother and daughter, both from Portsmouth, were declared dead.
The pair’s family shared a heartbreaking tribute, which reads: “Our beautiful, beloved little Theia who had so much confidence and life in her and our crazy Michelle who was vibrant and had a heart of gold.”
It added: “We truly love them and will miss them every day.
“They both had so much personality and so many loved ones, our hearts are broken.”
Hampshire Police has said their investigation into the incident continues and urge any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
A spokesperson for the force said at the time of the incident: “It was reported a red Ford Fiesta left the carriageway.
“The two occupants – a 43-year-old woman and a seven-year-old girl, both from Portsmouth – were both sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
“We would like to thank motorists for their patience as the A3 southbound was closed for several hours before it could be reopened.
“We would like to speak to any witnesses and in particular, anyone with relevant dash cam footage of the incident or the moments leading up to it.
“If you have any information, please call 101 quoting reference 44260083669.”
