A cleaning expert shared a simple and cost-effective laundry hack that could save families hours of time on laundry day – all for just £1.
Gemma Bray, known as “The Organised Mum” to her 15,000 social media followers, refers to herself as a “Housework PT” and has credited the use of laundry bags for helping her streamline the process.
Her method is simple: each family member is given a net bag to place their dirty socks and underwear in throughout the week. On laundry day, the bags are thrown straight into the washing machine and tumble dryer, with the small items safely contained.
“When they’re dry, you give them back, and they can pair their own socks. You don’t lose any socks, and you save hours with the laundry,” Bray explains.
Jennifer Shaw from Plumbworld praised the hack. She continued: “This is a brilliant hack for all those tired parents who just don’t have time to pair up every single sock or the money to replace the ones that go missing in the well-known ‘sock black hole.”
Shaw also pointed out the laundry bags can help protect delicate items like underwear during the wash. “It’s a really nifty little thing to have in your home – and for as little as £1, it’s a no-brainer!”
Bray recommends using different coloured nets for each family member to help further simplify the process, potentially saving parents even more time each week.
TikTok users were left in stitches over the clip as they took to the comments to give their opinions. One user said: “Okay that is a brilliant tip! The sock monster is rife in our house,” as another commented: “Absolutely genius.”
A third wrote: “Handy! First need to convince my husband to pop things in the laundry basket though let alone a specific bag for socks.” Someone else penned: “It’s brilliant and I do exactly the same thing.”
