World War 2 is ripe for survival stories and now a new “white-knuckle thriller” set during the conflict has been announced by Nocturnal Entertainment.
Produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Jaume Collett-Serra (Carry On, Cliffhanger), the film is titled Play Dead.
Already in post-production, it follows Noah Jupe (Hamnet, The Night Manager) as an Allied soldier who is forced to play dead among a group of Nazis, including a character played by Matthias Schweighöfer (Oppenheimer).
Penned by Natalie Conway and Peter Stanley-Ward, the director said of their screenplay: “Play Dead is the rare script that felt unapologetically cinematic, built for tension and atmosphere. What grabbed me right away was the precision. Every scene escalates, every beat matters. It had this addictive quality where I was turning pages fast to see what happens next. One moment I was being pulled in with suspense and the next I was suddenly feeling all the emotion.”
Raimi added: “Jaume and his cast bring the tense, emotional screenplay for ‘Play Dead’ to life through a masterful building of suspense and riveting performances.”
Play Dead’s release date is TBC.
