A man has been jailed after brutally raping a vulnerable woman and locking her inside his home. Kieran Naylor, 40, approached the victim at a petrol station before inviting her back to his home.
Manchester Crown Court heard how the ordeal took place between December 9 and 10 last year. After arriving back at his home, Naylor, of Bold Street, Bolton, became violent and raped the woman. She suffered a number of serious injuries in the attack, including a broken wrist and femur which required multiple surgeries.
Naylor then left the woman injured in his home but took her bank card into Bolton town centre. The court heard how he bought alcohol and cigarettes before unsuccessfully trying to purchase a tracksuit from JD Sports.
However, the woman managed to escape his home before being found by a member of the public. They dialled 999 and Naylor was arrested shortly afterwards.
The victim passed away from natural causes in May but was able to give important evidence to make sure Naylor faced justice. Her daughter said the horrific attack had a “massive impact on the rest of her life”.
The daughter said in her victim statement: “After this happened, my mum’s confidence and sense of safety completely changed. She became fearful of going out alone and trusting people was suddenly difficult.
“The injuries she sustained had a massive impact on the rest of her life. She struggled to walk properly, even with aid. At times, she felt she would never recover and that took a huge toll on her mental health.
She added: “Before the attack, my mum was kind, strong, caring, loving, and bubbly. She lit up every room she walked into. Seeing her lose that spark was devastating.
“Our grief is deepened by remembering the pain she was in. We will always remember her as the strong and loving person she was, and we will continue to live with the pain of what was done to her.”
Naylor was jailed for 14 years after being found guilty of two counts of rape, section 18 assault, false imprisonment and theft. Detective Constable Lucy Birch, of Bolton CID, described him as a “dangerous individual” and commended the victim for her bravery.
She said: “This was a shocking and deeply disturbing crime. Naylor is a dangerous individual who is rightly behind bars for a long time.
“We know how difficult this has been for the victim and her family, and her bravery ensured justice was served. It is saddening that she passed away before seeing Naylor sentenced, but her courage has helped protect other women from harm.
“If anyone else has been affected by crimes of this nature, please come forward. We will take your allegations seriously and treat you with dignity and respect.”
