Prince Harry’s fury at being ‘snubbed’ in favour of William as a child | Royal | News

Prince Harry has made waves with his revealing memoir, Spare, in which he details a longstanding rivalry with his elder brother, Prince William. The book includes accounts of minor sibling disputes and even alleged physical altercations, tracing their issues back to their early years.

In one passage, Harry expressed dissatisfaction with the bedroom arrangements at Balmoral, claiming that William, as the heir, was favoured. He described how out of Balmoral’s 50 bedrooms, one was split between him and ‘Willy’, referred to by adults as the nursery.

“Willy had the larger half, with a double bed, a good-sized basin, a cupboard with mirrored doors, a beautiful window looking down on the courtyard, the fountain, the bronze statue of a roe deer buck,” Harry penned.

“My half of the room was far smaller, less luxurious. I never asked why. I didn’t care. But I also didn’t need to ask. Two years older than me, Willy was the Heir, whereas I was the Spare.”

Elsewhere in the memoir, Harry claimed that upon his arrival at Eton, William instructed him to act as if they were strangers. Harry wrote: “For the last two years, he explained, Eton had been his sanctuary. No kid brother tagging along, pestering him with questions, pushing up on his social circle. He was forging his own life, and he wasn’t willing to give it up.”

Prince William‘s stance was no shock to Harry, as it is known that William “loathed it” when their mother, Princess Diana, dressed them in matching outfits or when “anyone made the mistake of thinking us a package deal”.

The relationship between the Royal brothers is reportedly at an all-time low, leading to speculation about whether Harry will ever reunite with the Royal family, reports the Mirror.

There were whispers that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were eager to spend Christmas with the Royal Family in the UK. However, they chose to celebrate the festive season at their residence in Montecito, California, while the Royal Family presented a united front at Sandringham.

Royal author Phil Dampier suggests that the Sussexes missed a golden opportunity to mend fences with the Royal Family over Christmas, which could have also enhanced Meghan and Harry’s popularity.

“Harry and Meghan have let it be known that they see 2024 as their year of redemption, to which my reaction is good luck with that. It’s a trite phrase dreamt up by their Hollywood PR people and in reality means very little. Actions speak louder than words,” he commented.
