Raducanu has vital signs checked in worrying Transylvania Open final | Tennis | Sport

Emma Raducanu’s Transylvania Open final against Sorana Cirstea was briefly brought to a halt on Saturday afternoon, as the Briton had her vitals checked by a courtside doctor. Trailing 2-1 in the second set, Raducanu retired to her bench briefly, where she sat with her head in her hand, wearing a look of exhaustion.

A doctor then approached the 23-year-old as a cuff was slipped on her arm and her blood pressure was measured. Raducanu was also seen gesturing to her chest as she coughed. Sky Sports commentary were then heard saying: “As you can see there, her trainer and could be the doctor as well out for Raducanu, having her blood pressure checked.”

After seemingly receiving the green light from medical officials, Raducanu then returned to the court, just a matter of moments after having walked off it. It comes as Raducanu recovered from an early injury concern in her semi-final clash with Oleksandra Oliynykova on Friday.

Before stepping up to clinch the first set, the young sensation called upon her trainer before performing a series of movements and stretches with her right shoulder in a medical timeout. Thankfully, any issues weren’t enough to prevent Raducanu from soaring to a convincing 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 win.

Speaking in the aftermath of the victory, an exhausted Raducanu said: “I mean, what an incredible match. I think all props to my opponent today. She played incredible. She makes it so tricky to put the ball past her.

“You think it’s past her and the ball is on your baseline or on your sideline, it was so difficult. I’m most proud of how I competed, how I came back in the third set and how I managed the match. I honestly don’t know if I could have done that without everybody’s support today so thank you so much.”

Saturday’s final ultimately proved too hot to handle for Raducanu, however, as she suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss at the hands of Cirstea in her first title clash since her US Open miracle of 2021.
