Initially perceived as a minor issue, post-surgery expectations were for the midfielder to return early in the current season. However, this was then delayed until the end of last year, with then Spurs boss Thomas Frank asserting he would certainly be back before the season’s conclusion. As the Dane’s tenure neared its end, Frank once again confessed his uncertainty over whether the 25 year old would play during this campaign.
Last week Igor Tudor said that there had been no advancement with the Swede who needs to be able to move without experiencing pain or discomfort after a complex knee injury that Frank had described as ‘historic’ in its rarity.
Sweden boss Potter conceded last week at his press conference after Kulusevski was compelled to miss another squad: “Dejan is making progress but not as quickly as we would have liked.”
Kulusevski’s knee specialist is reportedly based in Barcelona and now Potter has stated that the Spurs player will travel to meet his national squad, which includes Lucas Bergvall, in Valencia to speak to the group ahead of Sweden’s World Cup play-off against Ukraine.
“Dejan is in Spain so I think he will come here and meet us,” Potter told Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet.
“It will be nice to see him. At the stage he is in his rehab, it is okay for him.
“For others it is more difficult because they are at a stage in their rehab where it means it is more difficult to be on the pitch. But Dejan will come by and it will be fantastic.”
