Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have two surnames – Mountbatten-Windsor – for one very specific reason. During an episode of her new series, With Love, Meghan, the 43-year-old former royal corrected her actress friend Mindy Kaling after she referred to her by her maiden name, Markle. Speaking to Mindy, Meghan said: “It’s so funny you keep saying Markle. You know it’s Sussex now.”
She added: “You have kids and you go, I share my name with my children. I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, this is our family name. Our little family now.”
Despite this, both Archie and Lilibet – now aged five and three – officially have ‘Mountbatten-Windsor’ on their birth certificates.
Archie and Lilibet were both born without royal titles and only inherited their ‘prince’ and ‘princess’ titles after their grandfather, King Charles III, ascended the throne in September 2022.
Mountbatten-Windsor is a royal family name, commonly used by members without HRH or prince/princess titles. This means Archie and Lilibet were given the Mountbatten-Windsor surnames.
The name is a combination of “Mountbatten” from the late Prince Philip’s side, and “Windsor” from the late Queen Elizabeth II’s family.
Meghan made several mentions of her children during her new series, however, Archie and Lilibet did not make an appearance in With Love, Meghan.
Speaking to Korean-American chef Roy Choi, Meghan sweetly revealed that her daughter likes to “sway a little bit” when she enjoys a food that she is eating.
In episode two, Meghan showed Mindy Kaling how to make a balloon arch and says she learned how to make one for Archie’s first birthday back in 2020.
Later, speaking to her longtime pals Abigail Spencer and Kelly McKee Zajfen, Meghan shared how she learnt flower arranging when she was pregnant with her son.
