Santander is offering new customers a £25 Amazon gift card and £200 cash to those who switch to one of the bank’s current accounts. The offer comes amid Santander confirming the closure of 44 branches in 2026 and 2027.
The decision comes as more and more customers are choosing to bank online rather than in-branch, with Santander revealing that 96% of its customers use digital services.
However, the bank assured that representatives will be available at local banking hubs, libraries and community centres to provide assistance to those who need it.
Santander said: “We will continue to invest in both our branch network – comprising of full-service branches, counter-free branches, reduced-hour branches, Santander Locals, and our increasingly popular work cafes – as well as our digital banking services, so we can be there to support our customers however they choose to bank with us.”
Though customers can currently benefit from the bank’s offer. Those who switch to the bank’s Everyday Edge, Edge Up or Edge Explorer current account can earn up to £225.
In order to get the £200 bonus, you will have to pay in a minimum of £1,500 into the account and transfer at least two Direct Debits.
For the Amazon gift card, you will have to make at least five debit card transactions within the first 30 days of opening the account.
The three accounts all offer advantages, such as cashback, breakdown cover, and phone insurance. The Edge Up and Edge Explorer accounts have monthly fees of £5 and £17, respectively, while the Everyday Edge current account is free.
Speaking on the deal, Alastrair Douglous, CEO of TotallyMoney, a credit broker, said: “When it comes to banks, loyalty doesn’t pay – and right now, six will give you cash to move accounts. And with the Current Account Switch Service, it’s easy to do.
“Your balance, Direct Debits, and regular income will all be transferred automatically within seven working days, and more than 50 banks and building societies are part of the service, which has switched more than 12 million accounts.”
