Sarah Ferguson burned through cash on her daughter’s credit card as her excessive spending got out of hand, according to fresh allegations by a royal biographer. In a new chapter of Andrew Lownie’s book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, he claims the former Duchess caused chaos with her money habits.
The first edition of the book, released in August 2025, became a Sunday Times Bestseller for delving into shocking accusations about the former Duke and Duchess of York. The new 41-page chapter titled ‘The Reckoning’, which was released on May 21, delves into fresh claims about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
A long-standing former personal assistant to the former Duchess was quoted extensively in the new material. They claimed that working for her was a “chaotic” nightmare, and staff experienced a “crushing sense of embarrassment 80% of the time” due to her demands.
The book claimed: “The assistant and other staff members had problems getting paid and often had to buy things using their own credit cards. Sarah herself drew on Beatrice’s credit card constantly and paid one psychic in cigarettes.”
She also had several costly demands, according to the book. One of the more bizarre requirements was having a fresh cream cake baked every day, regardless of whether the previous one had been eaten.
Andrew Lownie’s book, which is more than 450 pages, is said to have taken four years to research and involved hundreds of interviews.
While his book became a bestseller, some critics argued that his royal biographies rely too heavily on secondhand accounts, and present events as facts, in the absence of judicial findings.
