Delta Airlines and Japan Airlines planes have collided at Seattle Airport in fresh chaos for the global aviation industry.
The incident happened at 10.17 PT on Wednesday morning, as a taxing Japan Airlines aircraft hit the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines plane at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
A Delta spokesperson told DailyMail.com: “While in sequence for deicing, the tail of a Delta 737 aircraft reportedly made contact with a wing tip of another airline’s aircraft.
“There are no reports of injuries for crew or customers on the flight, and we apologize for the experience and delay in travels.”
There were 142 customers on the Delta flight heading to Mexico who the company are now working to accommodate before they are placed on alternative flights.
One passenger said on X: “So, we were sitting on the tarmac at SeaTac and another plane ran into us, just casually sliced into our tail. Very scary.”
Another commented: “I’m sitting in a plane on the other side of all the emergency vehicles. Grateful this wasn’t worse. Perturbed that it happened at all.”
The incident comes a week following the tragic mid-air collision of a United Airlines flight with an Army Black Hawk helicopter as it came into land at Washington’s Ronald Reagan airport.
In the aftermath, questions were asked about staffing levels within the airport’s air traffic control, whilst US President Donald Trump made the unusual step of blaming the diversity and inclusion policies of previous administrations within 24 hours of the tragedy.
The incident claimed the lives of all 67 people onboard the two airframes with the cause of the crash still in the early stages of an investigation.
At the weekend, six people including a mother and her daughter were killed in a plane crash in Philadelphia as they travelled in a medical transport jet.
The crash happened just blocks from the Roosevelt Mall, a three-storey shopping centre in a densely populated part of Philadelphia, the fifth biggest city in the US.
An investigation is also being conducted to ascertain the circumstances of the crash on a flight which lasted less than one minute.
Investigators have found two engines, but the aircraft’s black box has not been located as authorities urge locals to report any debris they find.
Mayor Parker said investigators were “poring over every bit of material that has been available”.
