Wintry conditions are expected to hit the UK, with snow set to cover the UK in February. Latest maps from WXCHARTS show that snow will begin on Thursday, February 12 at midnight, with snow stretching from Scotland to the north of England.
Across the rest of the country, conditions look to be wet with patches of rain along the west and south coasts. In Wales and the Midlands in England, it looks to be drier with only small patches of rain. By Friday, February 13, at midnight, snow will become more prevalent. There will be up to 10mm per hour of snowfall, which will stretch from the Scottish Highlands to Stoke-on-Trent.
In Northern Ireland, there will not be any snow, but there will be up to 3mm per hour of rainfall.
The south coast of England will be mostly dry with small patches of rain across Devon and Cornwall.
On Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14, there will be patches of freezing rain in Scotland. This rare weather event will be seen around Ballater.
Snow will again be restricted to the north of England and vast areas of Scotland.
A Met Office forecast says: “Cyclonic patterns are expected to dominate across the UK during mid-February.
“Frontal systems over the Atlantic are likely to approach the UK at times, tending to become slow moving as they encounter a blocking area of high pressure to the northeast.
“This will result in showers or longer spells of rain spreading across the UK, these heavy at times.
“Rainfall amounts will probably be highest in parts of the west, including across areas already sensitive to flooding.
“As these bands of rain spread northwards, snow is possible across northern England and Scotland, mainly over high ground. Strong winds could develop in places, especially coasts.
“Temperatures will probably be close to normal overall, with any cold conditions more likely in the north.”
