Chilly weather is set to reach the UK next week, with several cities expected to be covered in snow before Thursday. It had seemed like warmer spring weather might be on the way, but now wintry conditions will be making a return.
Maps from forecaster WXCHARTS show that on Tuesday, March 24, snow will first hit Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland and the north west coast of England. Manchester, Carlisle and Glasgow will see snow. By Wednesday, March 25, the snow will spread in England, with Stoke-on-Trent, Sheffield and Newcastle set to see snow.
Northern Ireland will not see any snow, but the maps show the Welsh coast covered in purple, indicating snowfall.
The south of England looks largely set to avoid the snow, but it won’t be completely dry as large swathes of rain will sweep the south of the country.
Maps show that at 9pm on Tuesday, most of the east coast will be covered with rain, which stretches down as far as Southampton and Brighton.
Separately, the Met Office forecast says that the weather will turn unsettled during the week ahead.
For this evening and tonight, it adds that there will be a weakening band of cloud and patchy rain continuing to move southeastwards tonight, with clear spells either side.
It says there will be some blustery showers affecting the far north, with a patchy rural air frost developing under the clearer skies.
For Monday, it says: “A chilly start with some sunshine, especially in the south. Cloud will thicken in the north as a band of rain and strong winds moves into Scotland and Northern Ireland.”
For Tuesday to Thursday, it says: “Rain moves south on Tuesday, introducing colder air. Windy through mid-week with sunshine and showers, falling as sleet and snow across parts of the north.”
