Stop bathroom mirror fogging with easy tip involving 2 household items

A cleaning expert has shared a hack to stop a bathroom mirror from fogging up that has been branded a ‘game changer’.

Many people will have seen their bathroom mirror getting foggy from the steam after having a nice, hot shower or bath. Some wait for the mirror to clear up on its own or by putting their bathroom extractor fan on but one TikTok user, @homecleaning58, has shared a quick solution for a foggy bathroom mirror.

The cleaning pro recently shared a video on TikTok suggesting putting shaving cream on a folded towel then applying it to the mirror in circular motions. The user, who is “here to give you cleaning motivation”, often shares cleaning tutorials for different parts of the home and must-have cleaning products.

Bathroom City posted a blog on its website titled ‘7 easy ways to stop a bathroom mirror from steaming up’. It includes the shaving foam hack demonstrated by the TikTok cleaning expert.

The blog instructs: “Take a bit of shaving cream on your finger and spread it over the surface of your bathroom mirror. (You can spray shaving foam directly onto the mirror surface).

“Wipe clean with a soft towel or microfiber cloth.” It adds: “This simple trick acts as an effective barrier against steam settling on the mirror surface. Your glassware will not steam up for a few weeks.”

Bathroom City explains that steaming up or fogging happens when steam condenses on the mirror and steam emerging from hot water can condense on a colder surface which is why you can “see the result on a mirror instantaneously.” It elaborates: “Obviously, for a bathroom mirror to steam up, the steam that originates at the shower spray (or the bath tub) has to travel through the cooler air to reach the mirror. Since air tends to heat up easily, the mirror can steam up fast.”

Homecleaning58’s TikTok video includes some other cleaning hacks such as using baking soda and lemon to remove stains. The user sprinkled some baking soda on the metal surface of a small kitchen knife before squeezing half a lemon on top which made it clear and stain-free.

Putting candle wax on a tap to prevent water marks, using salt and lemon to disinfect wooding chopping boards and refreshing your fabric sofa with a microfiber cloth soaked in washing up liquid and then wrapped around the lid of a frying pan are some other cleaning hacks shown in the clip. The TikTok post, which was uploaded three days ago, has already amassed 1.3 million views, 161,400 likes and more than 200 comments, at the time of writing.

One user said: “The mirror one is a game changer.” Another seconded: “The bathroom mirror one is a must try!” A third commented: “The candle one on faucets is a real one.”
