Jason Myers has written his name into NFL history by becoming the first player ever to surpass 200 points in a single season, whilst also breaking the record for most field goals in a Super Bowl. The Seattle Seahawks kicker was in sensational form throughout Super Bowl LX, converting every field goal attempt to give his side a 12-0 advantage before a touchdown was scored in the fourth quarter.
Myers equalled the achievements of Ray Wersching, Harrison Butker, and Jake Elliot with his fourth successful kick to make it 22-7, before surpassing them with mere minutes left in the fourth quarter. He became the first kicker in NFL history to nail five field goals through the uprights in the showpiece event. The Seahawks have been amongst the league’s finest teams all season, posting a 14-3 record and beating division rivals the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs.
Myers has played a crucial role during this period, converting three from three on postseason field goals. During the regular season, he maintained an 85.4% success rate after missing only seven of 48 attempts.
This means the kicker has accumulated over 200 points across the season, including playoffs. The remarkable points haul has sparked a reaction from numerous fans who highlighted the inability to vote for Myers as Super Bowl MVP.
One said: “HOLD UP HOLD UP why can’t I vote for Jason Myers on NFL.com? This is some BS. The disrespect we have for kickers needs to end.”
Another added: “More points than any player on the field but not on MVP choice list.”
