The incredible new £150m train that will revolutionise travel in Barcelona | World | News

The trains, built at Alstom’s factory near Barcelona, are tailored for airport passengers.

Each five-car train will feature 209 seats and hold up to 656 passengers, with ample storage for luggage.

Airport screens inside the carriages will provide real-time flight information, keeping passengers updated as they travel.

Accessibility is also at the heart of the design. Step-free access, automatic ramps and reserved spaces for wheelchairs will ensure the service is available to everyone.

What’s more, passengers will benefit from adapted toilets and spaces for bicycles and trolleys.

The design was developed with input from the ONCE Foundation to meet universal standards.

The trains will also include 20 panoramic screens displaying travel information and 12 exterior LED displays.

On top of that, there will be audible signals and colour-coded door lighting – green for opening, red for closing.

The new service is part of a £150 million contract awarded to Alstom by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), the region’s railway operator.

Alongside delivering the trains, Alstom will maintain them for 15 years and construct a new depot in Barcelona to support the fleet.

Once complete, the line is expected to revolutionise airport travel in the Catalonia region, providing a faster and more modern alternative for locals and visitors.
