Meghan Markle reportedly had a bizarre demand for her former Windsor home, an explosive new royal book has claimed. During her brief stint as a working royal, Meghan lived at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate with Prince Harry before they quit as senior royals and moved to America.
In the upcoming book, Queen Elizabeth II, which is being released to coincide with what would have been the late monarch’s 100th birthday this month, royal author Hugo Vickers claims that Meghan wouldn’t allow cars to be parked on a nearby sports ground for a surprising reason.
Following their bombshell decision to step down from their roles as senior working royals, Harry and Meghan initially planned to split their time between the UK and the US, but that soon changed, and they have spent the last six years building new lives in California.
In his new book, Mr Vickers writes: “The Duchess of Sussex refused to have cars on the sports ground because she could see them from nearby Frogmore Cottage.”
Despite moving to the US, the Sussexes retaind hold of the cottage – until the publication of Harry’s damaging Spare memoir in 2023 led to them being evicted. At the time, a source close to the couple denied that the pair were shocked by the decision, as they told The Times: “It is what it is. They are not fighting it. They realise they have a home [in California]. They have a roof over their heads. They were very privileged to have a second residence. It’s not going to work out for them there, and that’s OK.”
The source added that: “the world seems to be more distraught over it than they have been” and accepted that “change was inevitable” as the King was always planning to have a slimmed-down monarchy.
While the decision to evict the couple from their Windsor home was largely brushed off by sources close to them, an explosive royal book claimed the Duke of Sussex had a damning question for his father.
In his book Endgame, author Omid Scobie claimed that after being told to leave Frogmore Cottage, Harry asked his father, “Don’t you want to see your grandchildren again?”
In the years which have followed, Harry and Meghan have been raising their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in Montecito, California.
While Harry has made several solo returns to the UK over the years, Meghan and their two children have not visited since 2022.
