Igor Tudor’s disastrous reign as Tottenham boss stooped to a new low as the relegation-threatened side shipped five goals away from home against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. The La Liga outfit were 4-0 up after just 22 minutes, with Tudor substituting his goalkeeper 16 minutes into the game.

Antonin Kinsky was at fault for two of the opening three Atletico efforts, having slipped on both occasions to gift Marcos Llorente and Julian Alvarez some of the easiest goals they’ll ever score in their lives. Micky van de Ven had slipped for the other, while no sooner had Guglielmo Vicario come off the bench than he was also picking the ball out of the back of the net.

Tottenham did reduce the arrears via a Pedro Porro strike, but things continued to get worse for the capital club, with Alvarez finishing off a lightning-quick counter-attack in the second half to make it 5-1. An Atletico mistake of their own saw Dominic Solanke convert with a classy finish, meaning Tottenham will enter next week’s second leg somehow still in the tie.

Now, let’s get one thing abundantly clear: this is by no means entirely his fault. Having been thrown into one of European football’s fiercest environments for a Champions League debut, the young goalkeeper was immediately on a hiding to nothing. But ultimately, you can’t make two howlers like that inside 16 minutes and walk away with anything less.

Did grab a goal, which improves his score by some margin, and was also responsible for a couple of teasing crosses into the Atletico penalty area. But ultimately he was part of a defence that shipped five.

Talks so much about the level that Spurs should be playing at, but is far too often part of the problem.

The best out of a horrendously bad bunch of Spurs defenders.

Not content with his clownish red card against Crystal Palace last week, the Dutchman almost saw red once again for an equally foolish tackle. That’s not to mention his role in Atletico’s second of the evening. Overrated?

Ushered into the team at left-wing back but was left wanting throughout the match.

Has some decent moments on the ball but is far too often bullied by hungrier and faster midfield opponents.

Regardless of how Spurs end the campaign, the versatile youngster ought to be on the phone to his agent to find him a new club next season. He deserves better.

Has to be in the mix for worst signing of the season, surely? It’s been a dismal loan spell for the striker, who was understandably hooked at half-time. Who knows where his future lies, but it certainly won’t be in a Tottenham shirt.

Really ought to have scored from 12 yards out with a header just before Atletico went down the opposite end and made it 5-1 exactly 12 seconds later.

Only realised he had played 45 minutes when writing these ratings. The definition of anonymous.

His first touch after replacing Kinsky was a stunning point-blank save, but such is Spurs’ luck at the moment, the rebound was converted. Couldn’t really do much for the fifth, but was certainly better than the player he replaced.

At half-time it felt unthinkable that any Spurs player would register a 7/10 score. It was only ever going to be one of the half-time substitutes, with the striker making all the difference at the tip of the attack. Took his goal superbly.

Not the return to Madrid he’d have been hoping for after leaving Atletico in the January window.

Ended the match off the pitch after going down with a clash of heads.
