UK hardware giant plans to hit 300 stores after making £50m profit | UK | News

A UK hardware giant has confirmed plans to hit 300 stores across the nation after reporting a £50million profit. The firm has set out ambitions to accelerate store investment following “another year of strong progress”.

Wickes, a home improvement and DIY retailer, currently has over 230 stores across the UK. They provide a range of building materials and home renovation products, as well as kitchen and bathroom installation services. Wickes’ latest financial reports show the company posted a revenue of £1.64billion in the year to December 2025, while profit before tax was £49.9 million. This figure was a 14.4% rise on the year before.

As reported by the Retail Gazette, Wickes chief executive David Wood said the firm had delivered “another year of strong progress”. He added: “In Retail, we achieved record market share with particularly strong sales across timber, tiling and flooring and paint, while TradePro continues to perform strongly, growing to 643,000 active members.”

The retailer now plans to invest in its stores, with four to five new shops expected to open in 2026. Meanwhile, a further 15 to 20 locations will be refitted before a further rollout of stores from 2028.

Wickes plans to eventually reach 300 stores across the country, creating over 2,000 jobs. It comes after the business opened five new stores last year and completed 11 refits.

Mr Wood said: “Given the strength of investment returns from our proven store refit and new store rollout strategy, we have today announced the decision to accelerate our investment for future growth.”

Wickes ended 2025 with net cash of £91.7 million which was up from £86.3million. The firm also announced a new £10million share buy back and expects to spend up to £10million on employee share schemes this year.

Wickes will also continue to invest in technology such as software design, upgrading till system and order management. The retailer previously insisted that customer experience was vital for its future growth.
