Britain is preparing for more snow as winter sets in, and temperatures drop to -6C in the coming weeks. New maps by WXCHARTS, which uses MetDesk data, has revealed a period of wintry weather from December 17 to 19. In the run-up to Christmas, snow is expected across Scotland and in parts of North West England.
Scotland will bear the brunt of the unsettled conditions, with snowfall forecast from Cape Wrath in the north down to West Dumbartonshire. In England, dustings of around 1mm/hr are due to hit areas such as Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, and Birmingham.
Temperatures are also expected to drop across the UK, with parts of the Scottish Highlands hitting -9C on December 19. While most of England will be slightly warmer, the North West could also reach a bone-chilling -4C.
Separately, the Met Office forecast for December 10 to 19: “A short spell of mainly settled weather is expected for the first couple of days of this period, with any rain or showers in the far north or west, and the rest of the UK mainly dry.
“Thereafter, low pressure systems will tend to dominate, bringing showers or longer spells of rain to much of the UK. Some heavy rain or showers are expected, with the wettest conditions overall in the west of the UK.
“Snow will probably be confined to high ground in the north. Periods of strong wind are possible, especially around coasts and if any deep areas of low pressure form in the vicinity of the UK. Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly above.”
