Brits should prepare for cold conditions with shockingly low temperatures due to hit the UK soon. Latest maps show temperatures as low as -14C could be seen in some areas, with snow due to fall across the UK. This comes after some parts of the UK have already been hit with snow this week.
In one map from forecaster WXCHARTS, it shows that at 12 noon on Sunday, January 18, lows of -14C could be seen in Scotland. In England, temperatures will range between -7C to 3C, while Wales will see between -4C and 0C. Snow depth maps show up to 40cm of snow in Scotland.
As for Northern Ireland, temperatures will also range between -4C and 0C. In another map for January 17 at 6pm, the forecast shows where snow will hit.
Large parts of Scotland will be chilly and covered in snow with up to 10cm of snowfall in some areas. Meanwhile in England, although it will be cold, it looks to be mostly dry so far, with little places to see rain or snow.
But not everywhere will avoid snow, with the east of England, to see between 1mm and 10mm of snowfall per hour.
Separately, the Met Office long-range weather forecast for Friday, January 9, until Sunday, January 18, says: “A changeable period is expected, with Atlantic frontal systems occasionally affecting the UK, bringing spells of rain, likely preceded by snow in some areas, more especially central, northern and eastern parts.
“Some significant snowfall is possible in places, particularly on northern hills. These low pressure systems could also bring some strong winds.
“These will be interspersed with quieter, drier interludes under transient ridges of high pressure, with the potential for frost, and wintry showers along coasts exposed to northerly winds.
“Temperatures will tend to trend closer to average as the period progresses, mainly in the south, such that the frequency of wintry hazards, especially in the south, may reduce slightly.
“However, there is a hint late in this period that it may briefly turn widely drier and colder again.”
