Brits will want to get their raincoats and umbrellas at the ready as weather maps suggest a huge Atlantic storm is to soon sweep the country. Spanning 712 miles from Inverness in Scotland to Penzance in Cornwall, the storm appearing on weather maps could batter most of Britain, if the forecast is correct.
Brutal WXCHARTS weather maps generated on December 7 using Met Desk data have turned red, orange, green and blue when looking at the forecast for December 9. This suggests that severe heavy rain could be on its way. The storm shown in the maps is so large that the most of Britain “disappears” underneath it. Those in the worst-hit areas could be battered with 7mm of rain per hour, the maps show. Bringing a deluge of rain, the storm could smash into the country in a matter of days on Tuesday December 9, if the forecast is correct.
Millions of Britons up and down the country are forecast to draw back their blinds and uncover intense rainfall at 6am.
Dumfries and Galloway in the western part of the Southern Uplands in Scotland will see some of the heaviest rainfall with 7mm forecast every hour, according to the maps. The Scottish city of Glasgow is forecast to have 4mm of rain per hour.
Elsewhere, those in Cumbria and Lancashire will see no respite with a massive 5mm of rain forecast per hour, the maps show.
Large swathes of Wales are hidden under a red rain wall, those in north and mid Wales will likely see between 6mm-7mm of rain, according to the maps.
Both Wales and England are barely visible in the WXCHARTS weather maps, as both countries are completely swamped under the Atlantic storm.
Elsewhere, west Sussex and Surrey will likely see 3mm of rain whilst parts of Devon and Cornwall could see 6mm of rain. London will not escape the barrage of rain with the capital forecast 1.5mm of rain per hour, according to the maps.
In a separate forecast, the Met Office is predicting “very wet and windy weather” for Tuesday and into Wednesday, “with western Scotland seeing gale force winds”.
The Met Office outlook for Tuesday to Thursday read: “Very wet and windy weather expected for Tuesday and into Wednesday, with western Scotland seeing gale force winds. A brief settled period on Thursday. Mild throughout.”
Separately, a yellow Met Office weather warning for rain comes into effect from 6pm on Monday, and will be in place for 24 hours, covering parts of southwest England and Wales, and stretching to parts of Herefordshire and Hampshire.
