UK weather maps show dates Arctic blast will hit country with freezing temperatures | Weather | News

Chilly weather is headed to the UK as cold temperatures are set to hit Britain as late as April. Brits may have thought warmer weather would be on the way with spring now in full swing – but the latest maps show otherwise. The maps, from WXCHARTS, show that on Wednesday, April 2 at 6am, many parts of the UK will see temperatures of 0C or less.

By Friday, April 4, temperatures will be at 0C or less again, according to a wind chill map from WXCHARTS. The only areas to escape the chilly weather are Cornwall, the coast in the east of England, the Welsh coast and some parts of the North West coast.

On this same day, maps show Scotland will see some snow, with much of the west of England to see rainfall.

Wales will also see rainfall across the country but large parts of the Midlands and the East will be free from any rain or snow in England.

In Scotland, there will be up to 2cm per hour of snow with some areas seeing a smaller rate of 0.2cm per hour.

A forecast from the Met Office paints a more settled a spring-like picture.

It said: “The final week of March into the start of April looks to be characterised by a slowly evolving, but changeable weather pattern.

“Initially, a dry interlude is likely with spells of sunshine across many areas. With time, these drier conditions will become more favoured across the south.”

It adds that further North and North West there is a greater chance of rain or showers at times, and this will be accompanied by windier spells and a chance of gales for parts of the far North West.

The forecast continues: “There is a small chance that these wetter, more unsettled conditions could become more widespread for a time.”

It says that temperatures will probably pan out close to average overall, though chilly nights remain possible where clear skies coincide with light winds.

The cold weather comes as many Brits are anticipating warmer temperatures on the lead up to summer.
