MOT rule changes – June 1
Electric van owners between 3,501kg and 4,250kg will now be classified as class 7 vehicles instead of heavy goods vehicles.
The update means that owners of brand new electric vans will only require their first MOT after 3 years, an increase on the previous 12 month deadline.
The rule change also brings electric vans closer into line with their petrol and diesel counterparts.
Advisory fuel prices – June 1
HMRC changes the advisory fuel rates every quarter, with the latest increase coming into action from June 1.
Advisory fuel rates are put together to give a suggestion on how much companies should be paying back staff for fuel costs. And with costs soaring in recent weeks, there are a lot of changes.
Petrol cars with engines up to 1,400cc will now be entitled to 14p per mile, an increase of 2p per mile from the previous quarter.
Petrol cars between 1,401cc and 2,000cc will now get 17p instead of 14p, whole cars over 2,000cc will now get 26p instead of 22p.
Diesel cars fitted with engines below 1,600cc will get 15p instead of 12p. Meanwhile, those with engines between 1,601cc and 2,000cc cc claim 17p instead of 13p, with those over 2,000cc now able to get 23p, not 18p.

Driving tests – June 9
The DVSA has introduced a series of new rules for learner drivers this spring and the final update comes into effect from June 9.
Under the latest change, learner drivers can only move their test to any of the 3 centres closest to where their assessment is booked.
For existing bookings, the DVSA has said that the new rule applies to where your test is currently booked for after June 9 – not where the test was originally booked.

Parking update – 15 June
A free parking scheme will be launched across three UK towns later this June in a massive boost to owners. West Suffolk Council has supported plans to change fees, with free parking introduced.
Some car parks in Haverhill and Newmarket will be free for the first hour, while the Parkway multi-storey car park in Bury St Edmunds will be not charge between 8am and 10am on Monday.
