In recent weeks, several UK-based businesses have been forced to call in administrators to help save some parts or all of their operations. Most recently, a 700-year-old school, an airline and an insurance company are just a few of the companies which have announced that they’re doing this.
This is unfortunately a very common occurrence in 2026, with thousands of businesses falling into administration this year alone. Rising gas and electricity bills, increased debt and reduced footfall are just a few of the reasons why companies may have to go down this route. Here’s a round-up of the latest administration news you need to know about.
Ruthin School
One of the UK’s oldest school has announced its shock closure and says it will enter financial administration. It opened in 1284 in North Wales, and was acquired by Chinese-owned Galaxy Global Education Group in 2023.
The school, which serves as a boarding school too, won’t be welcoming pupils back after summer. It’s thought that over 100 staff will lose their jobs, while parents of around 240 pupils have been left searching for a new school for their child.
It was recently named the top independent school in North Wales in The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026 and was also ranked among the UK’s leading boarding schools in league tables compiled by the Independent Schools Council.

Eastern Airlines
Based in North Lincolnshire, Eastern Airlines – which had been in business for 25 years – entered administration last year. A rescue deal was in place, but it’s now been announced that the regional airline was unable to be saved.
It usesd to cover routes across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. When it was most popular, it provided 200 flights a day and employed around 330 staff members, the majority of whom have now been made redundant.
Only 16 employees are left and are expected to stay on until the administration process is finished.
G2 Housing Group Ltd
This construction company has entered administration after being in business since 2014. It’s a private limited company that has operated in building development and management consulting for 12 years.
Based in Hampshire, the company was focused on sustainable building. It was registered as a member of the UN-backed One Planet Network with a designated Director of Sustainability and Wellbeing.

RPA1 Ltd
A social housing company has entered administration after running into financial issues . RPA1 Limited said it had been unable to meet its liabilities, leading to the appointment of joint administrators.
The business acquires newly built affordable homes from developers before leasing them to registered providers of social housing.
The administrators said they hope to maintain normal operations for those living in properties connected to the company while the administration is still ongoing.
W.I.S.E. Underwriting Agency Ltd
This insurance company has also entered administration after being in business since 1997. It was based in the City of London and said it has a “deep understanding” of marine cargo insurance, offering services on risks, loss or damage and specie insurance, designed to protect high-value assets.
In a statement on the home page of W.I.S.E.’s website, the company says it has “ceased all trading and regulated activity”.
Senior Glass Systems
Based in Scarborough, this sealed glass manufacturer has fallen into administration too. A statement from the administrators says the company’s business faced cashflow challenges due to significant downward pressure on prices and increased costs.
All 27 employees at the company have been made redundant, and the administrators are now helping the employees to ensure that they claim for, and are able to access, their entitlements.
