Santander has announced plans to provide qualifying banking customers who satisfy specific conditions with £180 payments “within 90 days”.

The high street banking giant has been contacting those who bank with Santander but do not hold a current account with them.

Part of the emails read: “It’s never been easier to move your income, Direct Debits, and standing orders from your old bank to us. Plus, when you get a current account with us, you can make use of our award-winning Mobile Banking app.”

Santander added that it will “transfer £180 into your eligible account within 60 days of your request to switch when you use the Current Account Switch Service.” Emails also encourage people to “give your money a fresh start”.

To qualify for the cash incentive, customers must submit a switch request to an eligible current account before the offer is withdrawn.

Within 60 days of lodging the initial application, applicants must also complete the full switch via CASS, maintain two active household Direct Debits on the account, and deposit a minimum of £1,500.

Qualifying household Direct Debits include council tax bills, mobile and home phone bills, broadband and paid-for TV packages, gas and electric bills, and water bills.

Anyone who held a current account with Santander on January 1, 2025, or has previously received a Santander switcher incentive, will be ineligible for the switching bonus.

The incentive is on offer with the Everyday Current Account, Santander Edge current account, Santander Edge Up current account, Santander Edge Explorer current account and Private Current Account.

Santander has warned that it reserves the right to withdraw the deal at any time, and standard terms and conditions apply.
