Santander closing 13 branches on Tuesday and Wednesday – full list | Personal Finance | Finance

The first four of these closed their doors before the end of January with another 40 sites to go over April and May. There will be 13 closing on either Monday or Tuesday next week including branches in England, Wales, Scotland and in Northern Ireland with the remainder listed to be gone by the end of May.

In January, when it made the announcement, the bank said the move was because customers were increasingly choosing to bank digitally. It said 96% or all customer transactions were now carried out online.

It said then 291 jobs were at risk from the closures. However it is unclear how many people have actually lost work as a result.

The upcoming closures follow the loss of dozens of branches in 2025. In March, 2025 the bank annonced it was closing 95 branches which would affect 750 employees. Then speaking in July of that year the bank’s then UK CEO Mike Regnier, said that about 2,000 jobs were lost in 2024 under restructuring of the bank. He said then that further job losses “might well be” likely.

Santander has said any branches that are affected by the closures will have alternatives in place of “community bankers” through Santander Local stores or shared banking hubs. The bank said this means customers in any area affected by the closure will continue to be able to access services in person.

The next closures start on April 28, 2026 with dozens more closing over the first three weeks of May.
